Interruption of Studies Portal for a Leading Research University
A globally renowned research university needed to digitise its Interruption of Studies and Return from Interruption processes, replacing manual workflows with a multi-level approval system built on Microsoft Power Platform.
The Challenge
The university's Interruption of Studies (IoS) and Return from Interruption of Studies (RIoS) processes were managed through fragmented manual workflows spanning multiple departments. Multi-level approvals were tracked via email, data was held in legacy systems, and there was no single student-facing portal — creating delays, inconsistency, and a poor experience for students navigating difficult personal circumstances.
Our Solution
We designed and delivered a dual-interface solution on Microsoft Power Platform. Staff accessed a model-driven Power Apps application for case management and multi-level approval routing. Students submitted and tracked their requests through a Power Apps portal. Power Automate orchestrated the approval workflows across departments, and a full data extraction and migration from the legacy systems into Dynamics 365 CRM ensured continuity of historical records.
The Outcome
The university successfully replaced its manual IoS and RIoS processes with a streamlined digital platform, reducing processing times, improving consistency across departments, and providing students with a clear, transparent experience during a challenging period in their studies.
